My name is Jeremy Littau. I’m an assistant professor of journalism and communication at Lehigh University. I teach a lot of different things at Lehigh, including multimedia journalism, but most of my teaching and research tend to center on the intersection of media and the social sciences. I am fascinated by how and why people use media.
I take the view that media is a way of seeing the unseen world, of accessing faraway places and event. By extension, the ways in which we use media allow others to have that kind of access to us. We are living in an immersed media environment where social relationships, artistic expression, and our day-to-day lives are more mediated than at any other time in our history. This has implications for who we are and what we do.
This podcast project is a chance to take some of what I think about and teach and distill it into news based on what is going on. It’s a chance for us to talk about some of these implications as well as technology changes that are making these implications possible.
For now we are in “soft launch” mode as we get the site going and find a rhythm for the podcast itself. Consider yourselves early adopters, and thanks for listening.
